Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurated a ₹ 79-crore phoenix-shaped
memorial built for late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa along the Marina beach in
Chennai. A phoenix-themed memorial for late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J
Jayalalithaa was inaugurated
The 'phoenix' themed structure is spread over 14,100 square
feet and is 15 meters high 30.50 meters in length, and 43 meters in width. It
houses the mausoleum of Jayalalithaa.
The state Public Works Department (PWD) consulted Indian
Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras for the memorial's design,
Phoenix is a mythological creature, a bird that dies in the fire of its own making only to rise again from the ashes.
The memorial's entrance is adorned by two lion sculptures
and bronze busts of Jayalalithaa and late chief minister MG Ramachandran, her
political mentor and the AIADMK founder.
Her signature slogan "Makkalal Naan Makkalukkaga
Naan", meaning her stature was because of the people and she was for the
people were brightly engraved on the mausoleum and a huge photograph of the the late leader placed nearby.
